Kept in the same family for fifty-three years, this Grand Duc, a unique bronze piece from 1933, was one of the favorite works of the emblematic animal sculptor of the Art Deco period: Édouard Marcel Sandoz.

A Curious History…

At one time this majestic owl was reported missing... In the catalog raisonné Sandoz - Sculpteur figuriste et animalier by Félix Marcilhac (éditions de l'Amateur, 1993), it appears as number 1013 and is still listed as "unlocated".

In reality it was in ‘hidding’ since 1972, in a house in Touraine for since it was given as a wedding present by Henriette and André Bouygues (1905-1998) to their son.
