Germanic medallions from the 16th century

On Saturday March 14th, Rouillac OVV presented three pieces in boxwood, carved with bas-reliefs in Germany in the16th century, and sold together for €9,548 (cabinet Fligny). The first is a medallion from Augsburg (circa 1506-1510), on the obverse a portrait of Hans Schellenberger with the inscription in German: "En l'an 1506, voici comment j'étais, âgé de cinquante-six ans", on the reverse his coat of arms (diam. 7 cm).The second medallion represents John FrederickI of Saxony (1503-1554), based on his portrait by Lucas Cranach the Elder, with the inscription "IOAN FRED DVX SAXONIE" (diam. 6.2 cm). The third piece is a maple game pawn with a profile of Claudia Octavia, described in Latin as "Octavia Claudia, wife of Emperor Nero" ; on the reverse, Bellerophon rides Pegasus. It comes from the workshop of Leonhard Danner (circa 1507-1585) in Nuremberg (diam. 4.5 cm).
