Aymeric and Philippe Rouillac wish all exhibitors and visitors of the 2021 ICAF a fantastic week and take this opportunity to present their arts+design #5 catalogue. Auction to take place on Sunday, November 7, 2021 under the Jean Prouvé-designed aluminium sheds of the Mame former printing plant of Tours (France).

LA SOURCE BY BALTASAR LOBO, 1990
140/160,000 € estimate

Never seen before on the art market, this bronze of museum worthy size (146 cm) was cast over eight years after its 1982 creation. À la source is a happy work of art by the Castellan artist that smoothly merges the art of Laurens, Arp, Maillol and Moore.

LETTRE BY ZENDEROUDI, 1967
20/30,000 € estimate

Charles-Hossein Zenderoudi is probably today’s most exhibited Teheran-born artist. This painting, which belonged to art patron Camille Renault’s collection, participates in the adventure of Western Art while being rooted in the occidental pictorial and conceptual resources of Persian culture.

BENSAUDE BEDROOM BY JEAN ROYÈRE, 1934
30/50,000€ estimate

These sycamore wardrobe and pair of chest of drawers that were imagined for the bedroom of Parisian physician Alfred Bensaude show Jean Royère’s knack for integrated furniture creation. They were one of only three orders that the artist tackled in 1934, including one for his own abode, and have remained in the Bensaude family ever since.

THE LAPICQUE IMPOSSIBLE COLLECTION (1898-1988)
300 to 30,000 € estimates

Patiently gathered by Violette Lapicque, one of the artist’s grand-daughters and her husband, this set of fifty-eight works make up an "impossible collection" covering the entire extent of the creative gesture of the man whom André Breton considered as one of the ten most important artists of the Western World.

QUENAULT’S LAST CALDER WORKS, 1969-1972
Starting price: 10,000 € each

These sculptures, which were offered by Alexander Calder to Quenault, a young Tourangeau welder, are the last of their kind to be put on our auction block after an eight-year trial that saw the French Court of Cassation dismiss the Calder Foundation’s infringement case.

LA SIESTE BY MAI-THU, 1942
40/60,000 € estimate

Painted right after the artist was freed from Nazi prisons, La sieste marks the occasion for Mai-Thu to reconnect with the silk painting technique he discovered as a youth, thus delivering a strikingly modern work of art blending the European Venuses and a fantasy-like Vietnam.

WOMAN AND WADER BY WANG KEPING, 1980S
8/12,000 euros estimate each.

These two sculptures were offered by the artist before 1990 to a friend hosting him in the Loire Valley who had provided him with raw wood in the forest of Marchenoir. Made in the first years of exile of the Chinese sculptor, they testify to his virtuoso chisel, all in purity and timelessness.
